Hello, I'm Assoc. Dr. Özgür Karakoyun.
Orthopedics and traumatology is a branch of medicine that deals with diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. Physicians who want to work in this field should receive a specialization training that lasts for 5 years after graduating from medical school.
I graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 2004. While studying at medical school, I started to be interested in orthopedics and traumatology. I was particularly impressed with the structure, development and healing of bones. In addition, it was very important for me that surgical interventions in this area increase the quality of life of patients and offer them a new life.
After graduating from medical school, I started my specialization training at Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital Orthopedics and Traumatology Clinic. I had a challenging but enjoyable educational process here alongside my valuable teachers. In my assistant training, I was interested in curvatures in the arms and legs, problems with broken unions and limb lengthening. I have gained a lot of surgical experience on these issues.
I completed my specialization training in 2010 and became an Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist. Then, I continued my academic career at Namık Kemal University, Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology. Here, I dealt with both the treatment of my patients and scientific studies. Associate Professor of Orthopedics and Traumatology in 2016. I got your title.
In 2018, I opened my private practice in the center of Tekirdağ. We have also established a well-equipped physical therapy unit here to better serve my patients. Among the subjects I specialize in are fracture union problems, bone infections (osteomyelitis), congenital or acquired arm and leg curvatures (deformities), extremity (arm-leg) lengthening, aesthetic lengthening surgeries and osseointegration surgeries, which is a new technology for amputee patients. Additionally; I also deal with surgeries that require skill such as knee and hip prostheses, revisions of these prostheses and foot deformities.
I have scientific articles about the diseases I am interested in and their treatment methods in many national and international scientific journals, and I have speeches at international congresses in many countries. In addition to running a private practice, I continue my scientific studies and continue the treatment of my patients with the most up-to-date information. I am a member of “Turkish Orthopedics and Traumatology Association”, “AO Travma”. I am married and have two children.
Working in the field of orthopedics and traumatology is both a profession and a passion for me. I am constantly trying to improve myself to help my patients in the best way possible. My advice to young physician candidates who want to work in this field is that they love this profession, be patient and work hard.
